Sunday Morning in Togo

This is a typical Sunday Morning Adventure.  Usually like to leave near 0715 but had late arriving guard and left at 0730.  Tchaa brought a four liter plastic jug to get gas for the village moulin and we needed to pickup Christian and his little daughters on the way. [delay in route]  If you have been following our journey, this part of the road will be familiar. Bridge is under construction and have had to use a temporary bypass for the past couple of weeks.  Three days of rain has made it almost unusable and the road worker who flagged us down said as much. [ build suspense] They were letting moto-bikes through at their own risk, but so is everything in Togo.... The video is me walking the route, measuring the "track" width and checking to see how solid what was left really was while praying for wisdom.  Turning around at this point and going the alternate route would add forty minutes to our journey and make the first service that much later......  Determining that there would be about six inches solid on either side and with a dog leg left part way through, sure, why not. [JON SAID his truck could go anywhere in four wheel drive]  Made everyone get out and walk across. Switching to four wheel drive, down and under, and to prayer mode for safety, drove across without incident.  Road worker was so impressed he actually applauded and said some praising French words....  I love Togo and the thrill of driving her roads and my God who watches over me.

If you were ever part of a bus ministry you probably sang "The Wheels on the Bus Go Round, Round, Round" with your kids.  These are what wheels on a "missionary vehicle" look like in Togo.
It is all worth it.  These are the church kids starting their service
 and the adults, starting theirs.
I love how even the smallest of children help enthusiastically in whatever work needs to be done.
OK  Good start for the day.  Now long way home and get ready to return this afternoon for the first day of our version of Awana's.  Since I am writing this "after the fact" I can tell you that Awana was amazing and one of the neatest experiences I have enjoyed in Togo.
It literally takes hours to post short videos, so AWANA will be up in a day or two.  Worth the wait I promise.  Everyone and I do mean everyone had fun with it and God received honor.  Amen.

  1. That was a good looking road! I promise that our truck will not get stuck, anywhere! It loves nasty roads and the muddier the better! Thanks again for all that you are doing over there.

  2. I loved seeing the kids looking at the pic of Heidi. I realize it takes a lonnnnnnnnnnnnng time to download the videos, but thank you for taking the time! Are there any accidents on the roads? It seems like there is no real direction of traffic. AND no real speed limit! It is so sweet seeing the babies on the backs of the mommas~ We love you Pops and PLEASE be careful out there!
