The Forest

Today, I sat in the forest
and waited for you to come to me.

I watched as the sun climbed the sky and the
canopy of leaves sparkled with prisms of
light, as a child's kaleidoscope.

I listened to the gentle wind, rustling in the
branches as she passed, softly touching as a
caress, all of the forest.

I felt the sun on my face, warming even my
heart and my thoughts of you.

Today, I sat in the forest
and waited for you to come to me.

I saw a doe come with her fawn and when it
fell she nudged it gently back to its feet, as
any mother with her child.

I heard the waters of a little brook as voices
tumbling from the stones along their path,
speaking of where they had been, untroubled
of what lay ahead.

Today, I sat in the forest
and waited for you to come to me.

I smelled the wild flowers surrounding me,
with bees visiting first one then another,
content with their roll in God's plan.

I remembered, as a sparrow sang from a
nearby branch, that my father in heaven
cared for all of His creation, even you and
me.

Today, I sat in the forest
and waited for you to come to me.

Then I realized, the sound of your laughter,
the touch of your breath, the smell of your
hair, the sight of your beauty, even the taste
of your lips is all around me.

Today, I sat in the forest
and you were sitting next to me.
